Harrison Kirk (cornet)

My first experience with music was beginning piano lessons at the age of 4. A few years later, I picked up my second instrument, the cornet, and had lessons at the Junior Academy of Music (JAM). JAM provided many opportunities to perform in groups, specifically brass bands as well as performing as a soloist.

I joined Downshire when I was 8, originally as part of the Youth Band. During this time I played at many venues including The Marketplace Theatre & Arts Centre in Armagh and St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast. My first time playing with the senior band was at Culture Night 2017, and from then on I occasionally played along with the senior band in some concerts and competitions. I became an official member of Downshire Brass in April 2019. I also play in various school groups on on trumpet, as well as at the City of Belfast School of Music. I have always loved playing with Downshire, not only for the music, but also for the band’s welcoming community and enthusiasm for playing.
