Laura McCallan (Eb bass)

I had the wonderful good fortune of being introduced to brass banding by Comber Silver Band, at a time when Ewan Easton (tuba player for Ulster Orchestra), was conductor. I fell in love with everything about being part of a brass band from the very moment I joined - the people, the music, the challenges of improving through hard work, and being able to play in a variety of unique (and sometimes strange) locations.

Having joined Downshire in 2019, I am a relatively new member, but have loved every minute of it and look forward to many future adventures.

I studied Music at Queens University, which is where I now work as a Digital Learning Developer. I love anything related to music and technology, and in my spare time I play around with sound design and music synthesisers.

Away from music, I love any type of sport and play football and cycle regularly. Any available chance my husband, Tim, and I love to travel around France in our campervan and beyond.
