Ryan Parks (cornet)

Ryan began playing at the age of 8 on Eb tenor horn with the Salvation Army junior band. He then moved to the cornet a year later and progressed into the senior band of the Salvation Army. He later joined Poyntzpass Silver where he had spells on 2nd cornet, flugel horn and eventually took up the role of principal cornet.

Ryan joined Downshire Brass in 2009 and began in the back row, during my time with Downshire Brass I have played Solo cornet, Flugel, Soprano Cornet and even a brief stint on percussion before moving back onto Solo cornet

Throughout his musical career he has enjoyed many varied trips with Downshire including contests in Troon, Pontins and the Irish National championships. One lasting memory with Downshire was our trip to the European Brass Band championships in Frieburg to represent Northern Ireland.

When not playing with Downshire I would regularly help out St Marks Brass Band from Portadown and also teach a number of piano and brass students.

"Band for me has become more of a lifestyle than a hobby and I hope to continue this way for many years to come"
