Stephen Doherty (Eb Bass)

Stephen began playing cornet when he joined Orangefield school at the age of 12.  His brother was already playing cornet for the band and his father had been a fine player in his day winning the silver bugle prize with the 46th BB company.  Under teachers Mr Ritchie and Mr Mercer, Stephen soon played for the orchestra as well as the band.

When he joined the BB after having been in the Scouts and was ushered into the band by his friends.  The conductor was the one and only Jack Crossan, an inspiration to anybody who played under his direction.  The highlight of Stephen's time in the band was taking part in the Hillerod Music Festival, Denmark in 1974, where his band, the 34th BB coy, represented N. Ireland. At the Festival He took part in a massed band conducted by the famous Geoffrey Brand.

Roger, his brother, got him to come along to the Reid when he was 14 and was soon moved onto soprano cornet. George Corbett was the Conductor. Over the years he has played every instrument in the band (even the trombone) apart from the flugel horn, so watch out Amy!

Hobbies outside of the band are Golf, Golf and more Golf!
