Well done everybody, have just read Uncle Paul's comments and I'm delighted that the youngsters are being given the opportunity to compete, it's the way forward (the only way!!). Congratulations David on winning the soloists prize. Well done Paul.

May I congratulate the band on an excellent performance on Saturday, but even more encouraging for me to see the young ones joining us for their first contest and what a difference they made, with several people commenting on our third cornet line including Joe in the middle!! Thirty six members on stage bodes well in my opinion for the future of the band so let's go away with that in mind. So here we go: Well done to David Corry on a superb solo and well deserved prize. EMMA, LUKE, LUKE'S COUNTERPART(I can never remember his name as he's too quiet!), LAURA, JONATHAN and CHARIS Big thanks to Mark and John for moving at short notice and doing a great job in a really spirited way. Michael as honorary no.2 and Joe for coming in to help the kiddies. In fact everyone in da cornet section for sticking me. Apart from that everyone else was ok except for the basses who were superb!! Also before I leave you all thanks also to Alan Corry for helping out on Flugel and doing a great job. (Must be the flugel!!) Joe you're back on it by the way, as you didn't acknowledge me on Saturday you scoundrel. So before I go, I would obviously like to wish you all well and would appreciate any likeminded wellwishes in my direction as to the superbness of my execution of the piece even with Man Flu!! Yours topping up on liquids, taking antibiotics, in bed, Uncle Paul.

What a roller coaster ride the band had in preparation for this contest ! If we can win under those circumstances then there must be potential. Lets plan towards future events, contests and trips and show everyone that Downshire means business. Congratulations to Paul H for his hard work and interpretation and to the members for pulling together when the chips were down.

Just a word of thanks to all who were able to attend the St. Mary Magdalene Chruch service on Sunday 28th. A number of the congregation spoke to me after the service and had nothing but praise for the way the band played, the effort that was put in by everyone and the selection of music. Thank you all once again. Neil
