He was introduced to banding at the tender

father, and progressed rapidly, becoming principal cornet whilst still
at Primary School.
Around this time, Paul joined the City of Belfast Youth Orchestra, and
by thirteen years old he was promoted to Principal Trumpet. A position
he retained for five years.
In 1993 Paul became a full-time trumpet

Mayor’s Show and other international wind band concerts. He has also
enjoyed playing with the Belfast Jazz Orchestra as Principal Trumpet and
Festival Brass.
Paul spent time teaching Brass and
Woodwind with the Belfast School of Music and later with NEELB. During
this period, he also returned to his studies on a part-time basis,
obtaining a BA Honours degree in Band Studies from The University of
Sheffield in 2006 where he studied under the likes of David Golightly,

whom are huge names in the Brass Banding Arena. He was also Musical
Director of Regent House Grammar School Senior Wind Band where he had
great success in local School Band competitions and was given the
opportunity to compose a substantial piece of music, part of which was
performed at their end of year concert in June 2006.
