Michael Cunningham (cornet)
Michael was introduced to brass band music to Comber Brass in his 20s by Bart Walker from Comber Brass the late bass trombone player with the Ulster Orchestra, conducted by Ewan Easton the conductor with Comber Brass and former bass player. After a few years with Comber Brass he then spent 20 years playing with CWA Brass in various roles from solo, repiano and second cornet and also played with a number of other brass bands including Templemore, Laganvale and Newtownards.
Michael has also a wealth of experience playing in other ensembles from concert bands, jazz bands to classical symphonic music with the Studio Symphony Orchestra, Essex Symphony Orchestra and Playing for Pleasure Orchestra playing big orchestral works including Mahler, Richard Strauss and Shostakovich.
Michael continues to help with other bands and has a hobby of recording and sharing performances of other bands. Having recently joined Downshire Brass Michael hopes to add some experience and enjoyment of music making to the band and future success.
