Pre-Freiburg Performance

  • Harty Room University Square, Queen's University Belfast BT7 1NN (map)

Downshire Brass will be holding an open rehearsal/performance on Wednesday, 29 April 2015 in advance of their trip to Freiburg, Germany to take part in the 2015 European Brass Band Championships.

The event will feature the new piece Orígenes, the set work for the Challenge section of the competition, which was written by Colombian composer Carlos Cardenas.  Although the piece is based on an African clave pattern, it also owes much to the composer’s roots in South America in its use of Latin rhythms.  Orígenes is also notable for the extensive array of percussive effects employed and the extended effects on brass instruments used during the work.  The Band will also be performing it's own-choice test piece that evening.

We would be delighted to have the support of our friends, families and other bands as we round-off our preparations for travelling to Germany the next morning.

The open rehearsal/performance will take place in the Harty Room, Music Building, QUB from 7.45pm - 8.30pm on 29th April 2015.  Free Admission.
