Joe Stewart (Solo Horn)

I started my brass band journey at the age of 9 with Wellington Memorial Silver Band, originally on cornet. After struggling to get past a middle g, my sister moved me onto tenor horn.

I worked my way up through the ranks at Wellington, eventually becoming 1st Horn. In 2020, I decided to take on a new challenge and joined Downshire Brass on 2nd Horn. Since then, I’ve progressed to Solo Horn and have had the chance to perform solos at competitions and concerts.

Some of my favourite memories so far include travelling with the band to the European Championships in Birmingham and Stavanger, competing in small ensembles, and taking part in unforgettable performances like the live play through of The Snowman.

I’m excited to keep growing as a player and look forward to many more amazing experiences with the band.
